Enrichment

There are five elements to Enrichment:

1. The Enrichment Programme:

This is the planned programme of activities that takes place each day during Breakfast Club (7.30 – 8.25am) or after the formal timetable is completed (3.35 – 5.35pm). It is mandatory that all students in years 9 to 11 attend at least one session of enrichment per week.

6th Form students are expected to stay on site between 3.35 -5.35pm to complete individual study or take part in enrichment activities.

The Enrichment Timetable can be viewed on the below link.

2. Tutorial Activities:

Tutorial activities are based on a Theme of the Week, which is also used to form the theme of the assembly and tutorial topic for the week. The themes cover a range of community, cultural, national and Every Child Matters themes. In addition, tutorial time also provides activities focused on student’s skills including literacy, careers, Information Advice and Guidance, bullying and pastoral issues.

Citizenship activities based in the Learning Village encourage participation in events, such as Children in Need, where fundraising develops students planning, decision making and organisational skills. Further community work is encouraged through the awarding of small bursaries to student groups where a clear plan is submitted and a ‘positive contribution’ identified.

3. At least one Visit or Trip:

Through residential, day or short trips out of the Academy, students are encouraged to experience different environments, cultures and meet new people, thereby increasing organisational skills, personal initiative and personal confidence.

Short trips and visits are encouraged within financial and other reasons that provide links to students’ courses, enriching their learning experience and providing an opportunity to put their learning in context.

4. At least one visiting speaker:

Visiting speakers may provide course related or tutorial-related talks. These are often used to provide an insight into a different approach or to provide awareness for students beyond the expertise of staff within the Academy.

5. Participation in an Academy event:

Whole Academy events allow students to take part in activities beyond the classroom and to have fun; such events include themed days, presenting assemblies, supporting the Academy in events, sports day, productions, concerts etc.
