Welcome to the Gifted and Talented (G&T) area of the Bedford Academy website.
It’s an exciting time! We now have a lead teacher for G&T, we have finalised our Gifted and Talented register ready to be released and have a whole host of G&T events taking place across the Academy. In this area, you can find out about these events as well as getting access to resources and information for both students and parents.
Who are our gifted and talented? The Academy is required to identify a Gifted and Talented pupil cohort comprising 5-10% of pupils in each year group. These are pupils who achieve, or who have the ability to achieve, at a level that is significantly in advance of the average for their year group in their school.
The cohort will be comprised of:
• Gifted pupils (defined as academic ability in one or more subjects in the statutory school curriculum other than art, music and PE);
• Pupils with talent (defined as those with ability in art, music, PE, or in any sport or creative art);
• ‘All-rounders’- pupils who exhibit ability in a variety of subjects both academic and creative;
• Pupils with ‘hidden talents’ which are not necessarily covered by the curriculum – i.e. a competent Russian speaker, expert first aider, member of local clubs or societies.
We Aim To...
• Recognise the needs of more able students within a framework of equal opportunity across the curriculum.
• Provide for these pupils to the highest possible standards, to nurture their ability, to stimulate their desire for learning and to provide appropriate challenges whilst at the same time providing an enriched learning environment for all.
• Implement procedures and strategies that will address the needs of an identified cohort of more able pupils.
• Celebrate the success of these pupils' achievements.
