Our academy has successfully achieved Intermediate level of the International School Award (ISA).
The academy secured this certificate through significant progress against the ISA framework in regards to the realisation of the international dimension in the ethos and life of the school. Our overall strategic planning already reflects the priority being given to the international dimension and the progress towards the objectives established in our international strategy .
To secure certification at the Intermediate level, the academy has satisfied the following criteria:
- an international co-ordinator in post with an agreed job description linked to the implementation of its international strategy;
- reflected on progress with the implementation of its international strategy and its contribution to meeting the priorities established in its SIP;
- provided one or more staff development opportunities linked to the international dimension ;
- completed study linked to the international dimension in three or more curriculum areas involving a number of students, staff and subject areas;
- the impact of its international strategy and these studies on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of pupils has been thoroughly evaluated and can be seen to have delivered outcomes associated with the Children’s Plan (successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens)
In addition to the above, the academy has held over three curriculum-based international activities in the last twelve months and has established a link with a school in another country.
After establishing such a wonderful link the academy plan to fully maximise the opportunity. Having secured the Intermediate International Schools Award, we are now working hard to compile our application to the British Council for a Full International Schools Award that is only given to schools that show the international link is embedded in their curriculum and enrichment with an evident influence on student learning.
The Humanities department have been working on a Fairtrade project with Bishop Okiring; an extremely relevant topic to Kenyan schools as Coffee and tea are Kenya's main export items. The English department are also working on several projects, including African poetry and African novels in Book Club. Our Sports department are working with Bedford Borough Council on a marathon club leading up to the 2012 Olympic games in London. Any students wishing to get involved in any of these projects can approach their form tutors.
