Punctuality

The Academy expects all students to arrive punctually and be ready to commence learning at 8.30am each day.

Students that arrive late to the academy must follow our Lates Policy:

  • The first time that a student arrives late, a fifteen-minute break-time detention will be issued;
  • If this first sanction is not attended, a forty-five minute afterschool detention will be served for the following Wednesday;
  • If a student fails to attend this second sanction, an hour afterschool detention with a member of the Academy's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) must be attended;
  • Failure to attend an SLT detention, or more than three late arrivals in a half-term, will lead to a day in the academy's Central Exit Room;

Parents/carers will be informed of afterschool detentions in writing or by telephone.

If a student arrives late to lesson, without a note that is timed, dated and signed by a staff member, the following will occur:

1. Lateness of five to ten minutes will result in the teacher retaining the student for the exact number of minutes at the end of the lesson;
2. Lateness of over ten minutes will result in the teacher advising On Call and the student being escorted to the Central Exit Room. Normal Central Exit Room procedures apply and the student will remain for the duration of a whole day.

The Academy supports parents/carers in encouraging their children to arrive on time so that their learning is enhanced and lesson disturbance is minimised.
