Bedford Academy Celebrates First GCSE Results

Bedford Academy is celebrating receiving our first GCSE results since opening last September. Results show a pleasing 5 percentage points increase over the final year of the predecessor school John Bunyan with 34% of students achieving 5A*-C including Maths and English – a school record.79% of students gained 5A*-C grades

There were some outstanding individual performances: David Ellis achieved 4A*, 4A, 1B and a BTEC Distinction; Mudrik Abdullah achieved 4A, 3B and 2C grades; Charles Hall 1A*, 6A, 1B, 1C; Nafia Kauser 3A, 1B, 1C and 2 BTEC Distinction Star grades; Anisha Thind 2A*, 2A, 1B and 2 BTEC Distinctions.

Principal, Claire Smith, said “We are pleased with the rise in results over our first year and congratulate all our students and staff for the hard work demonstrated to achieve these results. We are particularly proud of the increase in students achieving top grades A/A* and the results achieved in Maths and English.

These results represent our first steps on our improvement journey and there is still further for us to go. Our year 10 GCSE module results this summer show we have great potential for further increases next year and we intend to keep improving”.

AS/A2 Results Success!

Students are celebrating their first Bedford Academy A-Level results since the academy opened in September 2010.

The overall pass rate for Year 13 was 95.5%; BTEC's held a 100% pass rate. We are enormously proud of the high percentage of students that passed with top grades (A*-B) in Maths, Media and English and the exceptional performances in IT and Business BTECs. Well done to our students with notable individual successes, such as Ebony Brown and Elizabeth Hall in Media, English and Art, Errol Cornwell in Sport, Nahidul Islam in Maths and Business, Romeo Makaddas in Business and Travel and Ashraf Miah in Business and IT.

Our AS-level pass rate increased by 20% on the predecessor school's final year of results; in Maths, 60% of students achieved top grades. Year 12's top achiever was Suraj Gill with three A-grades and one B-grade in Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Other notable individual student performances were given by Sonia Chopra with one A-grade and two B-grades and Suzanne Darby with one A-grade and three B-grades.

Bedford Academy's Principal, Claire Smith, said: ‘Our 6th form has a really positive buzz of life and these are results that our students can be really proud of. They reflect the determination of our students and the expertise and hard work of the staff. Several students have chosen to go on to university and we wish them, and all our Year 13, every future success’.
