At Bedford Academy, we pride ourselves on offering our students unique and impactful experiences that help them explore their passions and ambitions. Recently, a group of Year 10, 12, and 13 students from Bedford Academy had an extraordinary opportunity to take part in a flight simulation at Voyager Flight Simulator in Luton, thanks to the generosity of Howard and the team at Voyager, as well as the invaluable support of our volunteer mentors.

The experience was arranged after one of our Year 10 mentors, a passionate volunteer through Bedford Giving and the 4YP programme, connected us with Howard. Knowing that two of our students were aspiring pilots, she facilitated the collaboration, and the result was a memorable and inspiring day for all involved.

During the visit, our students were welcomed by Howard and retired pilot Bob, who gave them a comprehensive tour of the flight simulator. The students then had the thrilling opportunity to "fly" a Boeing 737, taking off, flying over destinations like Luton, Sydney, New York, and the Maldives, and landing as if they were experienced pilots. The excitement in the room was palpable as our students asked insightful questions, learned about aviation, and connected with industry professionals.

This incredible opportunity, which was completely free for our students, has left a lasting impact. As one student shared, "Having had this experience has only reinforced the fact that I definitely would like to take the pilot route as my chosen career. Thank you to the staff at Voyager Sim." Another student echoed the sentiment, saying, "It was a wonderful experience that I hope to do again soon."

We are incredibly grateful to Howard and Bob for their time, support, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of pilots. Howard has also kindly agreed to join us at our STEM Festival this July, offering further opportunities for our students to engage with professionals and explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
