All staff at Bedford Academy are ambitious for all students, including those with physical, emotional or learning needs and the large, vibrant Access department works tirelessly to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Our ethos clearly values every student for who they are and what they can bring to the school community. Our vision is to create a positive and supportive environment for all students without exception. All students, regardless of their starting point, need to feel valued and included if they are to achieve well and thrive. This mean that at times our decisions will be driven by a deep sense of equity as well as equality.
As an inclusive school we aim to remove barriers to learning and participation, provide an education that is appropriate to pupils' needs, promote high standards and the fulfilment of potential for all students.
At Bedford Academy we will:
We do not believe in separation or isolation. All students need to learn to work cooperatively and collaboratively. All students will be helped to develop independence both in terms of learning habits as well as social skills. This includes longer term career development where the Access Careers Champion, part of the Careers team, ensures that the careers programme is accessible and meets the needs of all students.
