One of the ways that we look to improve our careers provision is to regularly monitor and review our destination data. The Careers Team tracks current Year 11 students intended destinations, confirmed offers of learning and actual destinations as well supporting students during their post 16 transition. We also track student destinations for three years after they leave school. It’s always lovely to catch up and see what our students are doing and to invite them in to school to share their experiences and inspire the next generation.
We take care to support students that have left Bedford Academy and ensure that they students settle in and sustain their chosen post 16 destination. All previous students are able to call or email the careers team if they feel unsettled, or unsure of the choices they made or are not receiving the support they need to succeed.
Our students move on to a variety of destinations including sixth forms, colleges and apprenticeships.
Sixth Form – This includes Bedford Academy Sixth Form and other sixth form providers..
College – This includes Bedford College, Shuttleworth College and other colleges in the local area.
Alternatives – This includes Foundation Learning which is for students who suit a more practical and hands on learning environment. These are often combined with supported work experience placements and the learning is usually self-paced. Providers include Develop, SSG and Nova Training. Also, in this category are those in traineeships which re courses that include a work placement and prepares students for an apprenticeship or full-time employment. At the end of these programmes students often move on to full time colleges or apprenticeships and from this go on to develop successful careers.
